La Dorothy Circus Gallery spazio dedicato all’arte pop surrealista e alle nuove tendenze dell’arte figurativa apre a Roma nel 2007, “Ai confini tra New York e il paese delle Meraviglie”. Si è sempre contraddistinta per la bellezza e l’unicità dei suoi percorsi che hanno destato in Italia e all’estero grande interesse da parte dei media e del pubblico in genere presentando per la prima volta sulle scene dell’arte contemporanea italiana artisti del calibro di Ron English, Sas & Colin Christian, Miss Van, Camille Rose Garcia, Alex Gross, Joe Sorren, Tara McPherson, James Jean, Kazuki Takamatsu e molti altri.
La Dorothy Circus Gallery è orgogliosa di presentare la prima personale italiana dell’ artista statunitense Tara McPherson, che inaugurerà il prossimo 11 Giugno 2015 nella Red Hall della Galleria.
L’artista americana, che vive e lavora a New York, è stata introdotta sulla scena artistica italiana dalla Dorothy Circus Gallery già nel 2009, durante la mostra collettiva “Inside Nostalghia”, realizzata in collaborazione con la Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Tara McPherson ha nuovamente esposto in Italia nel 2013, per “Lacrima Aquarium”: mostra istituzionale curata da Alexandra Mazzanti, direttrice della Dorothy Circus Gallery, accanto alle opere di altri 32 rinomati artisti,tra i più celebri dalla scena internazionale, tutte dedicate al tema dell’acqua, nella suggestiva location dell’Acquario Romano. Tara McPherson è una delle più originali artiste femminili del movimento artistico del “Pop Surrealism”, pioniera ed esperta della tecnica mista generata dalla combinazione delle più raffinate capacità illustrative con lo studio meticoloso della pittura ad olio. Fin dal 2006 McPherson è rappresentata dalla Jonathan LeVine Gallery ed è uno dei principali artisti della rivista di arte contemporanea Juxtapoz. “I Know It By Heart” è il titolo scelto dall’artista per la sua prima personale italiana, durante la quale verrà presentata l’opera “Quantum Dancer”, realizzata per “Scope Miami Art Fair 2014”. Il dipinto, olio su tavola, rappresenta la divinità femminile, una figura eterea e spirituale, che simboleggia il potere mistico di creazione e della distruzione. I nuovi lavori di Tara McPherson presenteranno tutti i contenuti iconografici propri dell’artista, ma con una visione ritrovata dell’Amore e della Creazione, generata dall’esperienza personale dell’artista recentemente diventata madre. La “ragazza senza cuore”, Orion, nasce come una figura femminile con un vuoto a forma di cuore al centro del torso, non in quanto vittima ma piuttosto per rappresentare l’elasticità e la forza, quasi come un faro di luce.
I “totem emozionali” di McPherson trovano il giusto spazio per il respiro, raccontando storie “dallo spazio” o spostando l’inquadratura di riferimento agli abissi sottomarini, offrono sempre una visione romantica e spirituale della solitudine e del vuoto, raffigurato come luogo vasto e sconosciuto dove tutti i riflessi di noi stessi possono vivere in armonia, tendendo le loro mani ad altri sognatori e sentendo un’energia cosmica passare attraverso i loro cuori bucati, come in un mantra. Con un’altra sorprendente e affascinante “palette” di colori, questa figura dal cuore intagliato è pronta ad emozionarci e a guidarci attraverso una nuova costellazione invisibile di sentimenti e percezioni. La mostra sarà composta da otto nuove opere inedite, realizzate durante la residenza a Roma dell’Artista, e da una vasta selezione dei più celebri rock posters firmati McPherson tra i quali quelli realizzati per artisti come Death Cab for Cutie, i Melvins, Beck, Franz Ferdinand … e molti altri. In occasione della sua permanenza a Roma, Tara McPherson realizzerà il suo primo Mural Project dedicato alla città di Roma che sarà parte del progetto di street art sociale “Spray 4 Your Rights”.
Tara McPherson è nata a San Francisco nel 1976 e cresciuta a Los Angeles. Ha ricevuto il suo BFA con lode in “Illustrazione e Fine Art” presso l’ Art Center di Pasadena, nell’agosto 2001. Ha lavorato al Rough Draft Studios, nel team di “Futurama” con Matt Groening, già durante gli anni del College. Oggi vive e lavora a New York City ed espone i suoi dipinti e le sue serigrafie nelle gallerie d’arte di tutto il mondo. Autrice di un arte dallo stile innovativo, Tara McPherson è una delle più originali artiste femminili del movimento artistico del “Pop Surrealism”, pioniera ed esperta di una “tecnica mista” generata dalla combinazione delle più raffinate capacità illustrative con lo studio meticoloso della pittura ad olio. Le persone e le loro relazioni e il loro bizzarro mondo interiore sono il tema centrale in tutto il suo lavoro. I suoi personaggi trasmettono una innocenza idealizzata, mantenendo però un pizzico di dura saggezza nei loro occhi. Ricordando contemporaneamente miti e leggende, insieme alle fragilità dell’infanzia e alle esperienze della vita, le sue opere sono sempre stimolanti e seducenti.

Dorothy Circus Gallery is proud to present Tara McPherson’s First Solo Show in Rome, which will be displayed from the next June 11th 2015 till September 26th in the Gallery’s Red Hall .The american artist, has been first introduced to the italian audience by Dorothy Circus Gallery back in the early 2009, during the “Inside Nostalghia” group show, made in collaboration with the Jonathan LeVine Gallery. McPherson emotional totems are giving the proper room to breathe, telling stories on outer space, or moving her frame of reference to the underwater depths, they always offer a romantic and spiritual vision of loneliness and void, depicted as vast and unknown environs, where all the reflections of ourselves can live in harmony, extending their hands to other dreamers and feel a cosmic energy passing as a Mantra through that empty-shaped hearts bridging the lonely gaps of imagination.
Now, with another surprising and charming color palette ,this female icon will move us and guide us through an unseen constellation of feelings and emotions.
The show will present 8 brand new pieces, created during the artist residency in Rome, and a large selection of the most representative rock posters illustrated by the artist as the ones she made for artists such as Death Cab for Cutie, the Melvins, Beck, Franz Ferdinand…and many more.

Tara McPherson was born in San Francisco in 1976 and raised in Los Angeles. She received her BFA in Illustration and in Fine Art from Art Center in Pasadena, CA in August 2001 with honours.
She interned at Rough Draft Studios, working on Matt Groening’s “Futurama” during college. Tara McPherson is an artist based in New York City.

McPherson has created numerous gig posters for rock bands focusing more on the quality of the illustration than on some predetermined band aesthetic, giving re-birth and new form to a genre that had trailed off into oblivion, with a clean, soft and coloured signature code she create posters for artists such as Beck, Modest Mouse, Melvins, Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey, Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab For Cutie and many more… She Has been nominated the crown princess of poster art also by ELLE Magazine.
